Founded in 1966 by African-American scholar, Maulena Karenga,
Kwanzaa is a holiday that celebrates African-American culture.
Honoring the past (especially the history of Africa) and
one's ancestors is central to Kwanzaa. The word actually
means "first fruits" in Swahili.
The celebration lasts for seven days; it starts on December
26th and ends on New Year's Day following a great feast
enjoyed by friends and family.
